We'll Execute Our Own, But Coddle The Enemy

As a follow up post to this story, the Enemy Press AP reveals at The Clarion-Ledger.com that the army intends to execute the soldiers accused of killing civilians in a raid on a purported Al Qaida stronghold.

"Lt. Col. James P. Daniel Jr. concluded that the slayings were premeditated and warranted the death sentence based on evidence he heard at an August hearing. The case will now be forwarded to Army officials, who will decide whether Daniel's recommendation should be followed." What?! There hasn't even been a trial yet and the army has already decided to execute the men?! This is an outrageous affront to our soldiers engaged in defending us from ruthless killers! "The soldiers are expected to be tried at Fort Campbell. They have been jailed in Kuwait since their arrests this year." Is this how the military currently conducts trials? Decide upon their guilt before a trial? This is communist thinking at its worst.

This blog will not speculate further on the guilt or innocence of the soldiers. It may well be true they have committed these acts with criminal intent. However, to announce that execution will be the punishment for our soldiers' acts while releasing terrorists to kill again is hypocrisy of the highest order.

If the soldiers are found guilty, then President Bush should step in and immediately commute the sentences to life in prison. Murder must not be condoned, but treating our own more harshly than the enemy is not moral superiority, it is evil. Murderers, terrorists and rapists all have their supporters demanding leniency, yet those who give their lives up to protect us are left to the gallows.

This pre-arranged death sentence must not be carried out. It must not stand, it should be taken off the table. President Bush must act, or we the people should.
